. . Sometimes the line between real-life people and fictional characters gets blurred. This in one of those tales. I don't know all the details because I wasn't there, but piecing together the stories of those who were, gives us a chilling reminder that in our physical world there really are characters like those we see portrayed in movies such as "The Godfather" and in the TV series, "The Sopranos." Regarding the story I call Jimmy Hoffa Justice, I am still gathering information and formulating it into a narrative than my readers will find interesting. In the meantime, and because it's about gangs and gang-caused property destruction and because it's so timely to answering the question, "How do we stop the present, global level, religiously-inspired violence?", I'll give you the highlights ahead of my filing my completed story. Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Stoney L. Tonto. I'm a staff reporter for "The Life Changer" (T.L.C.) magazine. I specialize in writing human-interest stories; stories in which beauty and ugliness frequently clash and emotions often run high. I write under the pen name "Stoney L. Tonto." L. Tonto is a takeoff of the Spanish word for "fool." This approach gives me license to step outside the mainstream box of "how to write" and to bring in stories from unexpected perspectives. . As you will probably remember, Jimmy Hoffa was a union leader who reportedly had strong ties to the Mafia. As you will also probably remember, on July 30, 1975, Jimmy Hoffa simply disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again. His disappearance was national news and sparked a major criminal investigation. There was no indication of a crime, no evidence of foul play, no weapons, no blood, and no Jimmy Hoffa. It's as if God had reached down in the middle of the night and just plucked him off the face of the Earth. "Well," you say, "someone disappearing is no big deal? Thousands of people disappear every year and almost nobody cares." The difference here is that Jimmy Hoffa was a well known, former Teamsters Union leader and he disappeared at a critical time in labor union history. Now that I've set the context, you probably already know where this story is headed. It's about a black or white legal system that is so tied up in legal piggly-wiggly that it simply cannot meter out much more than an occasional spark of justice. It's about petty hoodlums terrorizing the people around them and as you guessed it's about some members of the adult criminal networks stepping in and administering Jimmy Hoffa Justice to the most offensive of these young thugs. |

If you think about it for a moment, you'll realize that if we, as humans, are to produce and maintain a just society we must honor everyone regardless of whether or not we like them or what they are doing. This concept is constantly in conflict with what we call "The Greater Good." This is where some individuals are sacrificed for the good of all others. This sacrificial concept is called "Expendable Humans." Although it is applied in dozens of way throughout society, it is rarely mentioned publicly. The one place where it's so obvious that it cannot be hidden is in situations of war. In seeking to balance this dichotomy, we must bring up and and answer these two question: "How do we honor the rights of everyone and still deal with those who refuse to cooperate in our social structure?" "How do we deal with those who repeatedly violate others?" The criminal justice system has proven to be a rather dismal failure. Nobody wants a fascist police state. (Well, almost nobody.) And fairness demands an open society were government employee behavior is wide open to public scrutiny. One option for consideration in to create a two-tier system -- a system in which those who repeatedly violate others and refuse to alter their behavior are placed in a different justice system -- a system which allows room for those subject to it to change their ways and to come back into the normal society -- a system that is harsh and swift against those who refuse to change their behavior. If you examine this approach closely, you'll see that it could be applied to street criminals and, if applied internationally, could be used to end global- level, religiously inspired violence. This approach could fill in the present lack of consequences for those who engage in, or publicly endorse random, mass violence. |
