Are you sick of living in fear that you might be assaulted or that your car or some of your other property will be vandalized?   

For those of us in the San Fernando Valley (North West Los Angeles County, California)  the latest series of senseless violence has been a rash of cars with holes punched in the tires.   The incidents that I am aware of started in late September (2007) and are still continuing (October 2007).   I have personally seen about twenty vehicles parked on nearby streets with flat tires.   Vandals destroyed four tires on my own vehicles.     Most of the incidents that I am aware of occurred in the Winnetka and Northridge area.

The goal is to make the local residents aware of what's happening.   Eventually the vandals will be seen by someone, identified, and arrested.

Please note that the following statement is not to question the excellent work of the police.   It's a notice of the system that these dedicated men and women have to work under.

Filing a police report is little more than  futile gesturing and is not going to solve this type of problem.    Another word of caution:  If you file a police report,  they will  come to you to see your damaged property.   They will ask to see your I.D.   If you have an outstanding warrant for a traffic violation,  you'll get hauled off to jail.   And the vandals will be left roaming the streets.  

Other Possible Responses 

  Live in victim consciousness and do nothing except 
1) continue to treat this symptom as if it were the real problem 
2) continue to be violated , and 
3) pay the cost of repairing the damage. 

  Look for the underlying causes and act there.
